| Dimerix Bioscience is expanding the potential for new and existing G-Protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) drugs by deciphering interactions between their receptor targets. Almost half of all approved pharmaceuticals act through GPCR targets. Using its proprietary GPCR-Heterodimer Identification Technology (GPCR-HIT), Dimerix is identifying a matrix of novel GPCR heterodimers. When integrated with existing physiological and pharmacological data about existing GPCR drugs, the identification of novel receptor pairs enables: • Product Life Extension: Explain unwanted side effect of existing GPCR drugs and enable strategies to manage them. This will result in improved safety profiles and give opportunity for extended patent life. • Market Expansion: Transactivation of alternate receptors provides the opportunity to identify previously undescribed indications for active compounds. • Receptor De-orphanisation: GPCR partners for orphan receptors can be identified enabling orphan receptor activation through ligands targeting their heterodimer pair. • New GPCR Targets: GPCR heterodimers will become the next generation of targets for high throughput screening programs aiming to identify heterodimer-specific compounds. Dimerix has recently profiled some marketed drugs identifying different responses in their effect on GPCR monomers versus some GPCR heterodimers. The heterodimer response is suitable for compound screening and also highlights the potential for a combination treatment approach. |
